Overview

As the concept of cultural heritage preservation continues to evolve, the World Heritage Committee’s appeal on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the implementation of the “Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage,” has called for “World Heritage as a source of resilience, humanity and innovation.”

To address the international trend of preserving and revitalizing cultural heritage, the Bureau of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture in Taiwan has organized the “International Forum on Taiwan Cultural Heritage 2024: Border-crossing ~ Innovation in Motion.” This forum focuses on the principles of the “Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.”It showcases examples of Taiwan's cultural heritage while incorporating global concepts and trends in world heritage. The aim is to enhance the preservation, management, and promotion of cultural heritage in Taiwan, reflecting the spirit of actively promoting world heritage.Under the theme of this forum “Border-crossing ~ Innovation in Motion.” Six international experts from the United States, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Canada, who are members of the International Committee on Cultural Monuments and Historic Sites (ICOMOS)—an important advisory body to UNESCO for World Heritage List inscriptions—have been invited to engage in dialogues with government agencies, experts, scholars, and civil society organizations dedicated to preserving cultural heritage in Taiwan.
